A great way to get your family to try camping for the first time without spending thousands on camping gear.
Bush hideouts is a pristine bush camp set along the Goulburn River, nestled 12 kms from the town of Trawool. Come and camp with us but forget the hassle and expense of camping gear! Set on our 500 acre property, we’ve set up 5 cosy safari tents and you’ll have access to a central cabin designed by architect Chris Humphries with a full kitchen, self composting loos, fantastic fireplace, on site bar and hot showers. We reckon it’s glamping with a twist.
Originally made for the Diggers club as an Education centre to propagate heirloom seeds, we have a forgotten garden for you to explore as you wander through the bush. Come to Bush Hideouts and simply switch off, reconnect with your loved ones and meet our many furry and feathered friends who call this landscape their home. We are located next to the Horseshoe Lagoon forest and fauna reserve.
We have a large Wombat population and the reclusive Platypus is spotted regularly in the Lagoon and Goulburn river. A battalion of Kangaroos also pass through in the mornings.
Our camping accommodation includes 5 South African Campmor 3mx3m safari tents with single or double beds and a central cabin. The venue is ideal for groups. We love to host events be it your yoga retreat, writing workshop or fly fishing adventure. Our full kitchen and onsite chef means we’ve got your meals covered.
Alternatively, let us take you on our defender experience. We take you on a 4WD adventure off the beaten track on property and leave you to explore your surroundings with the defender fully loaded with dinner, drinks and breakfast.
Bush Hideouts accommodates a maximum of 10 people and we only book the camp out as a whole. You will have full access to a charming and fully equipped two story off grid cabin with a 15m x 15m footprint.
The cabin contains a comfortable collection of colonial and period furniture, a wood burner cooker and an oven for your convenience. And what’s more, you will have access to our own on-site chef. Check out our delectable MENU here.
Our Campmor tents are supremely durable with their virtually unbreakable solid core spring steel poles. The canvas is an exclusive rip-stop and they are the only tents that can be set up semi-permanently without fear of fading or deteriorating in the harsh Australian sun. They’re also category 5 compliance - which meets strict quality control standards to offer the highest quality possible. These tents are simply the best with sea grass mats, luxury stretchers, mattresses and fresh bed linen. A water bottle, lighting and your full cutlery and dining package awaits you on arrival.
Bush Hideouts is truly a place to commune with nature and reconnect with family and our furry marsupials! Although we don’t have wifi or good phone reception - you’ll be giving your tired eyes a break while you enjoy as much or as little of Hill Walking, Swimming, Fauna & Birdwatching, Cycling, Kayaking, Board Games, Bocce, Picnic's, Wine tasting, Wood Chopping, Evening Bathing in clawfoot baths, Stargazing and well, just being.
You can now have your very own Defender camping adventure on the Bush Hideouts property, with 2 locations to choose from - Riverside Camp or Mountain Camp.
Let us drive you to your camping spot after a 30 minute 4WD tour of the property. We’ll leave you with a full loaded Defender to enjoy the tranquility of the bush at your own leisure. But before we go, we’ll get you all set up. We’ll unfurl the Defender and transform it into your home for the evening, with fresh bed linen, duvets and pillows. There’s LED lights for nighttime vision. And we’ll set up the slide out kitchen with gas cooker, oven, utensils and washing up basin. There’ll be tables and collapsable chairs (great for going bush and having a picnic). On firesafe days, there’s a Snowpeak Firepit with wood provided.
The Defender will be packed with:
On the Menu:
Lunch: Oysters and Picpoul de Pinet - from the Languedoc region in the south of france.
When Oysters are not available, you’ll receive a charcuterie with cheese and bottle Winbirra "Brigadier" from the Mornington Peninsula. This can also be provided as a picnic hamper instead.
